About the Role

We have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced leader to join the team and take a leadership role in developing the energy supply mix for the future.  The Head of Gas Origination is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the Gas Origination team across AGL’s existing East Australia portfolio, growing West Australia portfolio, and for the strategic interface between domestic supply and LNG supply from the AGL gas import jetty project, currently being considered under feasibility study. 

The role has the responsibility for leading and managing a team of commercially focused individuals at an exciting time in the dynamic and changing energy market.  The Head of Gas Origination is responsible for leading a team to source, procure, sell, transport, and store AGL’s wholesale gas supply to meet AGL’s customer requirements across all segments.  This is a key leadership role for an inspiring and strategic leader looking to join an energized team focused on delivering for the future.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Opportunity to drive the strategic direction of AGL’s wholesale gas portfolio and create a vision for the future
  • Guide the development and successful implementation of purchasing and pricing strategies to manage the wholesale markets gas portfolio positions
  • Lead contract negotiations for all structured deals relating to wholesale gas sales consistent with the wholesale portfolio strategy
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of relationships with market participants and upstream producers that provide AGL with competitive energy purchases and superior market information
  • Support and lead Gas Origination to manage risks, obligations, and compliance specific to AGL in accordance with the Wholesale Markets Risk Management Policy
  • Team development and business thought leader who impacts the development and execution of broader AGL strategies.

About You

  • Outstanding knowledge and experience in the Australian gas market and international experience would be well regarded
  • Outstanding knowledge of the energy industry including electricity, coal and renewables
  • Experience in presenting to and building relationships with Senior Management and Executive Management Teams
  • Proven track record in detailed gas contract negotiations
  • Minimum of 10 years in a senior commercial role in similar or related business or industry
  • A tertiary qualification in a quantitative discipline preferred (e.g. mathematics, engineering, statistics, physical science, economics.
